Meghalaya Chief Minister and National People's Party (NPP) President Conrad K Sangma on Sunday received the mortal remains of Archbishop Dominic Jala at Guwahati Airport, alongside his family members and loved ones.

"It's overwhelming to see the love and support given by everyone present which shows the impact he has made in everyone's lives", Sangma wrote on Twitter.
Earlier, Sangma had visited the deceased Archbishop's bereaved family to pay his condolences to the departed Archbishop.

The mortal remains of Shillong Archbishop Dominic Jala, who died in a motor vehicle accident in the United States’ California, arrived in Guwahati in the afternoon. Archbishop Dominic Jala's mortal remains have been accompanied by 3 priests and Shillong MP Vincent H Pala from the US.
According to reports, the funeral of the Archbishop will take place on Wednesday at the Cathedral of Mary Help of Christians, Laitumkhrah, Shillong at 1 pm.
Archbishop Dominic Jala SDP, Archbishop of the Archdiocese of Shillong, Meghalaya, and IECL Commissioner of India for many years, died in a car crash in the United States on October 10. The accident occurred in Colusa County, Oakland, California. The Salesian Archbishop Jala was 68.
It is pertinent to mention here that Jala was ordained a priest for the Salesians of Don Bosco on November 19, 1977. He was the provincial of the congregation’s Guwahati province before he was appointed the archbishop of Shillong on December 22, 1999. His episcopal ordination was on April 2, 2000.
Archbishop Jala is the second Indian archbishop to die in a car accident abroad. Earlier, Archbishop Alan de Lastic of Delhi had died on June 20, 2000, in a car crash in Poland.
