Tripura Deputy Chief Minister Jishnu Dev Varma has called the Budget 2020 a “practical budget which eyes towards economic development and it will certainly fulfill the aspirations of the North East.”
Varma, who also holds the Finance portfolio of Tripura said, “It has been done in a unique way and termed to be a comprehensive one.” While addressing a press conference, Varma hailed the budget for its special emphasis on agriculture and allied areas and said that despite constraints of funds, the government took ample initiatives to uplift education and agriculture. He also congratulated Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman for allotting Rs 2.83 lakh crore for Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare sector.

“Agriculture is the biggest economic base of this country. Agriculture coupled with SHG (Self Help Groups) is the future of rural economy. More credit has been given on this sector which will certainly usher in a new dawn. There are 56 lakh SHGs in the country and more people are willing to form more SHGs in Tripura” said the Deputy CM. Moreover, Krishi Rail and Krishi Udan would be highly beneficial for NE farmers, he opined.
The Deputy Chief Minister admitted that there was an economic slowdown and held the previous Congress-led regime responsible for that. “Although there had been an ostensible economic slowdown in the country due to the legacy-based politics and the non-performing assets (NPA) left during the previous UPA government’s regime. Earlier, the budgets stood conflicting and competitive in nature where MPs get involved in a tug of war to make there are attract preference in the budget. But, now the budget had become inclusive,” he observed.

Jishnu Dev Varma concluded saying that empanelment of Hospitals across the country under Ayushman Bharat scheme would further expand the ambit of health services in the country. “Tax reduction would lead to increase the power consumption. Smartphones to be distributed for uploading nutrition status by Anganwadi workers; Target of making India Tuberculosis free country within 2025; etc. are some of the positive sides which will influence state's economy in future,” he added.
