ONE DAY AWARENESS PROGRAMME ON CHILD RIGHTS HELD IN MANIPUR

A One Day Awareness Programme on Child Rights with a focus on Juvenile Justice Act, 2015 & POCSO Act, 2012’ organized by the Manipur Commission for Protection of Child Rights (MCPCR) as part of the ongoing District Level Child Rights Awareness Programme under the sponsorship of National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) for Thoubal District held today, at Umang Laikon, Heirok.

Speaking as the Chief Guest, Education, Labour & Employment Minister Shri Thokchom Radheshyam said that the information being imparted through the awareness programme, workshops or seminars need to make the people understand and realize its importance. The awareness programme being conducted by the MPCR, he explained is to highlight about the importance of how one can protect the child and their rights under Juvenile Justice Act, 2015 & POCSO Act, 2012.

He expressed that the people goes to the police station to seek help when they need it and is the duty of the police personals that they extend their full cooperation towards the public. He said while handling juvenile cases police should make sure that they treat the children with care. No children want to become rogue but it is the situation that they are sometime compelled to choose the wrong path.  

India, he said, is a welfare state and is a mandatory that the basic requirements of the people are met. He asserted that it is under such compulsion and importance that the Government has implemented a free and compulsory education to the children between the ages 6 - 14 years in the country. Thus it is the duty of the people that they look after the children who have failed to get education because of poverty. He said it is highly the need of the hour that the Government schemes implemented in the interest of the people reach the right beneficiaries.

Today’s programme was attended as President and Guests of Honour by Chairperson, MCPCR, Smt. Sumatibala Ningthoujam, Adhyaksha, Jila PArishad, Thoubal, Smt. Hashina Begum, Deputy Commissioner, Thoubal Smt. Haobam Roshita Devi, Acting Session Judge Bini Ngangom, Shri Hijam Priyokumar alongwith resource persons, teachers, students and locals.
