The Tripura state government has declared a holiday on the birthday of Maharaja Bir Bikram Kishore Manikya, from next year onwards.

However, the BJP government has not included 1st May, which is observed as 'Labour Day' worldwide, in the holiday list. It may be mentioned that May 1st has been a holiday in Tripura for the past 40 years.
It may be mentioned here that just a few days ago, the state government has published the list of government holidays for next year.

According to the state government notification released by the General administration department ,19th August, the birthday of Maharaja Bir Bikram, will be a government holiday.
After forming the government in Tripura, BJP had renamed Agartala airport after Maharaja Bir Bikram, who was the last king of princely State Tripura. A statue was also installed in front of the airport.

Meanwhile, the BJP government is making various efforts to revive the legacy of Maharaja Bir Bikram. Since the last three years, the BJP has been celebrating the Maharaja’s birthday like like a BJP party program. Apart from this RSS and its allied organizations are also working to carry forward the legacy of Bir Bikram.
