Agartala, December 7, 2019:
The Indigenous People’s Front of Tripura (IPFT), an ally of BJP in Tripura, called a 12-hours strike protesting the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill on December 9, in the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) area. The strike was declared by IPFT leaders in a press meet here today.
IPFT leader Mangal Debbarma has stated that the strike will be carried out as a mark of protest against the central government's resolve to pass the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, added that apart from the BJP, all the political parties of the Northeast India region are in opposition to the Bill.
He said that the Central cabinet has already approved the CAB, and it may be tabled in the Parliament in the next week of this month, which is a cause for concern.
Reiterating the demand for a separate state Tipraland, and demanding the Centre to withdraw the Bill, the IPFT and its allied organizations called a Bandh on 9th December 2019 from 6 AM to 6 PM all across the areas of TTAADC in the state.
Notably, a massive delegation of IPFT members had organized a sit-in-demonstration at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi, opposing CAB and demanding a separate state.
