Tripura Police have detained five persons involved in ominous drug trade and seized a huge quantity of drugs including three sophisticated fire arms.
The Police of North, Dhalai and West Tripura district had launched an operation in Agartala. Reportedly, police of Jirania nabbed two youths identified as Naresh Chakma and Besik Chakma, who hailed from two adjoining sub-divisions of Gomati district. It has been suspected that the fire arms were being carried from Nagaland, along with a consignment of Yaba tablets.

Sources in the police department said, a secret input was generated by sources that two sophisticated fire arms along with the consignment of Yaba tablets was arriving here in the city through train.
“In order to evade strong security check, the accused duo decided to get off the train in Jirania police station. Alerted by the information, a police team under the leadership of OC Jirania police station had already laid an ambush in the railway station. They failed to escape the police dragnet and were arrested”, said a highly placed source in the police department.
On being asked on the seized stuff, sources said, “Altogether 3000 Yaba tablets have been seen along with three country-made pistols and two magazines. The pistols seized during the operation are a little different from the usual 9mm pistols. The length measured 7.65 mm and well designed.” Sources in the debarment also informed this reporter that both of them had been booked in several cases including arms smuggling.

On the other hand, a housewife and two of her accomplices were arrested from Bhati Abhoynagar area located in the city peripheries for being involved in drug trade. Speaking on the issue, SDPO Priya Madhuri Majumder said, acting on a tip-off three of them were arrested from the residence of the woman. Heroin worth Rs 4 lakh had been confiscated in the search operation conducted by the NCC police, she added.
“The arrested persons are Madhuri Debbarma (31), Tapash Shil (37) and Partha Chakraborty all residents of the city and the suburb areas” said a source in the department.
