The villagers beat him and on Sunday morning police rescued him from the spot. He was send to Melaghar hospital, where he died.

But the place where Matin Mia was caught by the villagers, and the house of Tapan Bhowmik, whose cattle was lifted, has a distance of 4 kms. Moreover, there have been reports that Mia was beaten based on rumors and there is no evidence to suggest that he actually lifted the cows.

32-year-old Matin Mia was a resident of Kulubari village of Sonamura and the villagers of the village are very angry over this incident and the tension prevails in that area.

This year in September and July, two more mob lynching cases were reported from Tripura, which resulted in the victims' deaths. In last year, as many as five people died in Tripura due to mob lynching.
