Violence rocks part of Tripura, several injured; Section 144 clamped in West district

Tension gripped parts of Tripura after a series of violence shook the state leading to several opposition and ruling party workers sustaining injuries and being forced to take shelter in other places.

Speaking with India Today NE, a senior police official on condition of anonymity said that since last evening till now, more than 50 cases of violence took place across the state.

“Still now we are collecting data as the violence is still going on in various parts of the state. So far we have received above 50 incidents that took place across the state in which around 8 persons were severely injured and brought to Agartala GB Pant hospital. We have so far arrested 22 persons and around 4 FIRs registered so far”, the top cop said.

He further informed that as the situation is grim, the police administration has deployed a huge contingent of police and CAPF in the vulnerable areas and keeping a close eye on the situation.

As per the report, violence took place in Charilam, Bishalgarh under Sepahijala district, Santirbazar in South district, Kamalpur in Dhalai district, Khayepur, Barjala, Gandhigram of West District and Dharmanagar and Bagbasa in North district.

Though the correct figure of injured persons has not yet arrived many workers from the ruling BJP, CPIM and Congress are coming to constant attack.

Meanwhile, the West Tripura District administration has clamped section 144 CrPC for 12 hours across the district in order to maintain law and order, peace and tranquillity.

In an order, West District Magistrate Debapriya Bardhan said that a letter has been received from the Superintendent of Police, West Tripura which mentioned the requirement of restriction in order to maintain law and order, peace & tranquillity within the jurisdiction of West Tripura District.

“This order shall be valid from 06:00 P.M of 3rd March 2023 to 06:00 A.M of 4th March. Any person violating this order shall be prosecuted u/s 188 of I.P.C. The Superintendent of Police, West Tripura District is directed to ensure strict implementation of this order. The CAPF, SAP, and Police shall be deployed optimally to ensure strict implementation of the order Issued under my hand and seal on 3rd March”, the order reads.
