Bollywood Celebrities Raise their Voices against CAB

Mumbai, December 11, 2019:

Many celebrities in Bollywood have now added to the growing cacophony of voices demanding the scrapping of the controversial Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, which has already been passed by the Lok Sabha.

Renowned actress Swara Bhaskar, known for speaking out against oppression and injustice, took to Twitter to express her distaste for the proposed legislation. "I do not want my hard earned money as a taxpayer to be spent in funding this sick bigoted NRC/CAB project!", Swara said.

Khiladi Akshay Kumar's wife Twinkle, who has launched a second career as a successful children's book author, wrote, "Discrimination based on race, colour, caste, religion and other such social constructs in whatever form, goes against the fundamental moral integrity of the human condition."

Urging the people to take a stand against the Bill, Pooja Bhatt wrote, “If you won't stand up against those who tear us apart with their lies, hate, and bigotry, expect to do a lot of sitting down.”

Not to be left behind, South Indian actor Siddharth, condemning MP Edapadi Palanisamy for voting in favor of the Bill, wrote on Twitter, "Deeply ashamed that Edapadi Palanisamy represents my state and our people. Supporting the

Richa Chadha, another B-town actress, responded with an "oh no" to an image bearing the number of MPs who had voted for and against the Bill.

Meanwhile, the Bill has been shifted to the Rajya Sabha, after it easily cleared the Lower House, with 311 'ayes' as against 80 'noes'. Despite massive protests against the Bill in the Northeast, and most notably in Assam, the BJP majority is expected to steamroll it through the House later in the afternoon.
