Citizenship Amendment Act a 'Shame' and a 'Big Game': Bollywood Actor Javed Jaffrey

As the celebrities of the entertainment industry continue participating in the protests against the controversial Citizenship Amendment Act, B-town actor Javed Jaffrey, best known for his acting, voice acting, impression, comedy in Bollywood films and Indian television series.

On 19 December 2019, Jaffrey was a part of the protest that took place in the historic August Kranti Maidan. At the rally, Jaffrey applauded the students of the universities who have taken to the streets to oppose against the Bill-turned Act. Jaffrey described the Citizenship Amendment Act as “dangerous” and “communal” and alleged that it goes against the Constitution of India that was framed by B.R. Ambedkar. “It is a matter of shame but also a big game", he alleged.

“The strength of the youth has swelled throughout the nation. The youth...they are amazing and I hope they keep this going because this is the strength of our country, the youth of the country", Jaffrey said.

Then, he goes on to mention about the actor, Sushant Singh, who hosted the television program “Savdhaan India” and was fired from the show because he had participated in the protest against C(A)A.

“This country was not formed out of nowhere. Our predecessors who have made huge sacrifices for the Indian-soil, its quintessence can be found in our DNA”.

He then went on to describe the perilous situation prevailing in the country terming it as “darkest of the night”, “violent storm” and “wrecked ship”.

Jaffery also emphasized on the core issues like demonetisation, unemployment and economy and advised the government to tackle these problems instead of creating communal wars between the Hindus and Muslims.

He further requested the government to stop this “game” and instead concentrate on providing the basic necessities of a human being, improve education, health policies and unemployment problems. He demands the government to build the nation instead of building temples.
