Deepika Padukone Stands in Solidarity with JNU, BJP Leader Calls for Boycott of 'Chhapaak'

New Delhi, January 8, 2020:

Deepika Padukone’s sudden visit to Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) during a protest against the recent attack on students and teachers by masked goons, gained the country’s attention.

As photos and videos of Deepika attending the protest and conversing with the students, including JNU Students’ Union (JNUSU) president Aishe Ghosh, who were attacked on Sunday evening, Twitteratis took to the social media platform and poured in sweet-sour comments.

Delhi BJP Spokesperson Tajinder Pal Singh Bagga called for boycotting the Actor’s movies. “RT if you will Boycott Movies of @deepikapadukone for her Support to #TukdeTukdeGang and Afzal Gang,” he tweeted.

While fellow actors and Twitter users gave a shoutout to Deepika for coming out in support of the JNU students following the attack, others criticized her by calling her visit to JNU a “publicity stunt” for her upcoming film, Chhapaak.

#BoycottChhapaak started trending on Twitter with fans posting against the actress and some even saying, “No one can save Chhapaak.”

On the other hand, filmmaker Anurag Kashyap wrote on Twitter, “The female of the species is, and was, and will always be the strongest of the two #DeepikaPadukone. Chhapak first day all shows. Let’s all those who stand against the violence go to @bookmyshow and show them. Make our silent statement which will be the loudest.”

B-Town’s Swara Bhasker, Richa Chaddha and Filmmakers Nikkhil Advani, Hansal Mehta, Anubhav Sinha and others hailed the Actor for meeting the students of JNU.

It may be mentioned here that masked goons barged inside the hostel premises of JNU and vandalized the property and attacked students as well as teachers on Sunday evening. Around 30 people were gravely injured in the incident.

Students have alleged that the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad or ABVP, Bajrang Dal and Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS)-backed goons had organised the attack on JNU.
