LONDON: Amid the rising concerns over the new strain of COVID-19 found in the United Kingdom, another variant has been found which has links to South Africa.

Two cases from this new category have been detected in the United Kingdom, British health secretary Matt Hancock has confirmed.

Both of them have come in contact of those who have travelled from South Africa over the past few weeks. South Africa had detected the mutation earlier.

It reported last week that scientists have found a new genetic mutation which might be responsible for the recent surge in Covid-19 cases in South Africa.

South Africa reported a sudden spike in the number of Covid-19 cases in recently and the new variant is believed to be the reason behind.
