Coronavirus: Covid-19 cases cross 10-million mark worldwide

Global Coronavirus cases crossed 10 million on Sunday as per World Health Organization's (WHO) with 179,316 new cases in the past 24 hours, while the death toll is now close to 500,000.

The milestone will come as many hard-hit countries are easing lockdowns while making extensive alterations to work and social life that could last for a year or more until a vaccine is available for Coronavirus.

According to reports, The United States of America is worst-hit by Covid-19 worldwide. The US recorded 2,507,930 fresh cases and 125,511 deaths and continues to be the country with the highest number of infections.

New York, California, New Jersey, Texas, Illinois, Florida and Massachusetts reportedly have cases over 100,000. Brazil is in the second spot followed by Russia, India and UK in terms of total Covid cases.

Brazil 1,313,667 infections and 57,070 deaths. Russia stands on third rank in number of COVID-19 cases in world as the toll surged to 626,779. India, on Saturday, reported 18,552 new cases which was the country's highest single-day spike. The UK, on the other hand, has not seen a massive surge in COVID-19 cases, as the toll reached 311,727.

Although, India has now more than 509,000+ total COVID-19 positive cases and the death toll is now 16095. Active cases in India stand at 203051 while 309712 have been cured or discharged so far. The number of recoveries as against active cases has exceeded more than a lakh. The rate of recovery is now at 58.56%. This is seen as a positive as the country heads for unlock 1.
