Amid the Covid19 pandemic, the Trump government has formally walked out of the World Health Organisation (WHO) and informed the UN regarding the matter, as per officials.

USA President has been critical of WHO for siding with China after the onset of the viral spread throughout the world and has earlier expressed displeasure with the world health body.

In April, the US stopped funding to WHO as the Trump administration reviewed the ties. A month later, President Donald Trump announced the US was terminating the relationship.

The US is the largest funder to the WHO, contributing more than USD450 million per annum, while China's contribution to the health body is about one-tenth of that of the US, as reported on The Economic Times.

US House of Representatives Speaker Nancy Pelosi called Trump's move "an act of true senselessness as WHO coordinates the global fight against COVID-19."

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has said that the WHO is "absolutely critical to the world`s efforts to win the war against COVID-19."

"The Secretary-General ... is in the process of verifying with the World Health Organization whether all the conditions for such withdrawal are met," a statement issued by UN spokesman Stephane Dujarric stated.

The credbiility of WHO has taken for a toss with many alleging lack of proper management over the virus.

Earlier, a group of scientists will publish an open letter to the WHO claiming that coronavirus is airborne. An airborne disease is any disease that is caused by pathogens that can be transmitted through the air over time and distance by small particles. Such diseases include many of considerable importance both in human and veterinary medicine.
