Manipur Congress Leaders Reach Delhi to Discuss 'Naga Issue' with Sonia Gandhimanipur

New Delhi, November 14, 2019:

A team of Congress leaders from Manipur on Wednesday reached New Delhi in the midst of the contentious Naga Political talks between the Government and the Naga insurgent groups to hold discussions with political leaders from across the aisle.

The team, lead by former Manipur Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh, and several MLAs, reached Delhi on Wednesday to seek answers from the topmost layer of the BJP leadership, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and Home Minister Amit Shah. The Manipur Congress leaders will also meet the party President, Sonia Gandhi, to discuss the contentious issue. The team comprises K Govindas, K Meghachandra, Chaltonlien Amo, N Loken, AK Mirabai, TN Haokip, K Ranjit, and Th Lokeshire.

They will urge the party high command, the prime minister and Union Home Minister Amit Shah not to disturb the territorial integrity of Manipur during the signing of the final Accord between the Centre and the negotiating parties from Nagaland.

The peace talks were scheduled to be completed on October 31, however, on that day, the Centre said it is yet to conclude talks with Naga insurgent groups, and added that the Government will consult neighboring states, before a final agreement is reached.

Meanwhile, in another development, the Joint Legislators’ Forum (JLF) of Nagaland assembly has urged its neighbouring states (Assam, Manipur and Arunachal Pradesh), to ‘extend all possible cooperation so that the Naga peace process can conclude in a successful manner that will enable peace and stability in the entire region.’

Moreover, the forum also urged the negotiating parties — NNPGs and NSCN (IM) to come together ahead of the final accord.
