MANIPUR: EMPLOYEES OF STATE CIVIL SECRETARIAT JOIN CEASE-WORK STRIKEcease

Normal working hours at Manipur civil secretariat was affected as the employees under the aegis of Manipur Secretariat Services Association (MSSA) joined the cease-work strike demanding immediate implementation of 7th pay commission recommendations on 28th May.

Manipur government employees have been on cease-work strike since March 22 demanding that the state government should fulfill their demands immediately.

Accusing the state government of failing to give positive response to the demands after more than two months of cease-work strike, employees of civil secretariat joined the strike.

Owing to the strike, working at all the sections and offices in the North Block and South Block of the Manipur Secretariat, was almost paralyzed.

Most of the employees attended the offices but did not discharge their duties. Meanwhile, there was a heated argument after some lower rank employees discharged their duties abiding with the orders of principal secretaries and administrative secretaries, who are not covered by the strike. Leaders of MSSA said that they were compelled to launch the cease-work strike accusing the state government of failing to provide tangible response regarding the implementation of 7th Pay by May 26, the deadline set by the association. On the other hand, the Manipur State Pensioners’ Union (MSPU) with more than 46000 members has also threatened to launch a series of protests from May 31.

During the first phase of the protest, the pensioners will stage sit-in-protest from 10.30 a.m. till 3.30 p.m. everyday which will be followed by other forms of the protest in the event if they failed to receive positive response from the government.
