Former Mizoram Home Minister R Lalzirliana has resigned as a legislator from the Mizoram Assembly with an intention of joining the opposition, Mizo National Front (MNF).
He submitted his resignation letter to state assembly secretary SR Zokhuma.
Lalzirliana who was also vice president of the state Congress committee resigned from the council of ministers on September 14 after he was served a show cause notice by the party disciplinary action committee on September 6.
He was then expelled from Congress for an indefinite period on September 17. After he was expelled he announced his intention to join the opposition MNF.
He reportedly said that he has resigned after consulting constitutional experts. He added that he would soon join the MNF and contest from Tawi seat.
