Indigenous organizations and student bodies are spearheading protest demonstrations against the proposed Citizenship (Amendment) Bill today. Although the protests have been peaceful by-and-large, violence erupted on the streets of Imphal between the protesters and police.

Manipur People Against Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016 (MANPAC) an organization which has been spearheading the agitation against the introduction of CAB, re-launched the agitation against it by calling for an 18-hour shutdown in the state today.
Many civil society organizations in Manipur have been protesting against this Bill. During the last parliamentary session as well, there was a complete lockdown in the whole region.

Footage has been captured at the Keishampat Wahengbam Leikai road in state capital Imphal, wherein Citizenship Bill protesters can be seen clashing with armed personnel on the streets. The short clip was uploaded on the page 'MANIPURI KHONJEL', and police personnel can be seen charging unarmed protesters with lathis.
Meanwhile, the Northeast Students’ Organization (NESO) has kickstarted in all the Northeast Indian states’ capital cities. It may be mentioned here that the member organisations of the NESO are AASU, KSU, GSU, AMSU, NSF, TSF, AAPSU and MZP.
