Manipur: 15-day polo tournament kicks off at historic Mapal Kangjeibung
A major fortnight-long polo championship launched on December 5 at the historic Mapal Kangjeibung, bringing together more than 30 teams in one of the largest tournaments held in Manipur.
The DGAR Men and Women Polo Championship, scheduled for 15 days, is jointly organised by the Directorate General of Assam Rifles (DGAR) and the All Manipur Polo Association (AMPA).
Speaking to reporters, Lt Gen Ravroop Singh, Inspector General of Assam Rifles (South), said the force has been hosting multiple sporting events to guide young people towards constructive opportunities. He described Manipur as a sporting powerhouse and stressed that regular competitions can help channel the state’s strong athletic potential.
He encouraged young players to join the tournament, calling it a valuable platform for showcasing their abilities.
The opening ceremony was attended by retired Lt Gen Konsam Himalay Singh, AMPA president Konsam Saratchandra Singh and Equestrian Association president Lt Col (Retd) Mangonba.
