Meghalaya CM Conrad Sangma reaches Delhi to take last stand against CAB

Guwahati, February 11, 2019:

Meghalaya’s Chief Minister Conrad Sangma has flown to national capital Delhi to take a last stand against the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill 2016.

While talking to the media before his departure, he said that will meet the political leaders who have pledged to oppose the Bill including members of the JD(U) and Shiv Sena.

Although Sangma met many leaders of BJP including Home Minister Rajnath Singh, he was unable to schedule a meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who cited a 'busy schedule' as a supposed excuse not to meet the Meghalaya CM.

The Bill has already been passed at the Lok Sabha and will almost certainly be tabled at the Lok Sabha within the next two days.

Sangma, meanwhile has resolved to snap ties with the ruling National Democratic Alliance (NDA) alliance if the Bill is passed in the Rajya Sabha.

It is to be mentioned that the Bill seeks to remove hurdles for non-Muslim immigrants from the neighboring countries of  Bangladesh, Afghanistan and Pakistan to gain Indian citizenship.
