A delegation of the Hima Nongstoin Coal Traders Land Owners & Producer Association on Wednesday interacted with Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma and produced a list suggestion for preparation of the mining plan as directed by the Supreme Court.
In its suggestion, the delegation stated that there is a need for the appointment of more consultants to prepare the mining plan. They mentioned that the existing private consultants will not be able to do justice in time as a large number of mine owners will be applying for it.

They suggested that the government can utilize the experts to prepare the mining plan besides their regular office work. They added that there is the need for setting up a permanent branch office of the Directorate of Mineral Resources (DMR) at Nongstoin as miners from the mineral-rich West Khasi Hills district have to travel to Shillong for work related to mining and transportation.
The lease agreements by mine owners should be allowed to be registered with the office of the Syiem with the condition that the prevailing customs and usages are codified in accordance with the law, as suggested.
They further sought a notified weighbridge at some point on NH-44E i.e. Shillong-Nongstoin – Tura road as many coal-laden trucks will be plying on this road on their journey to Assam.
A police checkpoint be designated for checking of challans etc. at only one point. No police personnel be allowed for checking of loaded trucks apart from the designated checkpoint.
To all these suggestion, the chief minister assured to hold a discussion on it.
Reportedly, Conrad Sangma assured that the state government will look into the matter of DMR and assured to install a weighbridge if it is needed after discussing with the Transport minister. He further mentioned that the checking of the loaded trucks is the sole duty of the DRM and not the police.
