SHILLONG: Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma today stated that the Civil Society Organizations (CSO) pushing for the implementation of the Inner Line Permit (ILP) in Meghalaya are now seeking an audience with Union Home Minister Amit Shah who will visit the state on January 23. The Union Home Minister will visit Shillong to chair the plenary meeting of the North Eastern Council (NEC).
Speaking to media persons on the sidelines of the Meghalaya Day celebrations today in Shillong, Sangma said that no previous Government has done anything for implementation of the ILP in the state. The CM further informed that the civil society organizations agitating for the implementation of the ILP have sought a meeting with Shah during his impending visit to the state.

The Confederation of Meghalaya Social Organizations (CoMSO), un umbrella body, has threatened to intensify protests in the state in the New Year till the demand to implement the ILP.
Notably, a resolution on ILP implementation was passed by Meghalaya MLAs in the State Assembly last year.
The groups are also calling for the implementation of the Meghalaya Residents Safety and Security (Amendment) Bill, 2020.
Meanwhile, Shillong MP Vincent Pala has also promised to take up the ILP issue with Shah during his visit. He recently told media persons that he will bring up the issue whenever he meets Shah again.
