SHILLONG: David Nongrum, a Congress MLA representing Mawryngkngeng, passed away early Tuesday morning in Shillong after suffering a cardiac arrest. He was 42.
Nongrum was declared brought dead to North Eastern Indira Gandhi Regional Institute of Health & Medical Sciences (NEIGRIHMS).
Nongrum turned 42 in January. He joined the Congress party in 2018 and contested from Mawryngkngeng constituency.

Nongrum, the son of former Speaker Charles Pyngrope, has been elected twice from the Constituency.
Chief Minister Conrad Sangma, condoling the MLA's demise on Twitter, wrote, "Extremely saddened by the sudden demise of Sh. David Nongrum, Hon'ble MLA from Meghalaya. He was a young, dynamic and vocal leader who executed an impactful tenure. My heartfelt condolences to his family and loved ones in this hour of grief. May his soul rest in eternal peace."
Meghalaya Minister James Sangma wrote, "Extremely shocked & saddened to hear of the demise of Shri. David Nongrum, MLA of Mawryngkneng Constituency. His death is a loss not only to the people of his Constituency but also to the State. My deepest sympathies to the bereaved family. May God give them strength."
