Scotland of East is all geared up to celebrate the 72nd Independence Day on Wednesday with pomp and gaiety as the day will be marked with festivity right from the ceremonial parade at Polo Ground at 9 am followed by other colourful events throughout the day.
In this connection, the police have already made elaborate arrangements for tackling any eventuality.
East Khasi Hills district Superintendent of Police (SP) Davis N Marak said, “We have made elaborate security arrangements for the upcoming Independence Day celebrations in the city and other parts of the district.”
He said the police are conducting checking of vehicles and bikes in deferent parts of the city to ensure that law and order is maintained during the celebrations.
“We will be deploying additional security forced in vulnerable areas like Motphran so that law and order is maintained,” the SP said.
He added that additional forces have also been deployed in and around the main venue – Polo Ground – where the tricolour will be hoisted.
Earlier, the outlawed Hynniewtrep National Liberation Council used to give boycott calls on the Independence Day and forced residents of Shillong and elsewhere in the State to stay indoors. However, things have changed now.
