Following the recent controversy related to illegal coal mining, in which more than fifteen labourers are feared trapped in the East Jaintia Hills, Meghalaya Pradesh Congress Committee spokesperson Zenith M Sangma on Saturday slammed Chief Minister Conrad Sangma, calling “arrogant”, “incompetent” and “irresponsible”.
Speaking to InsideNE, Zenith M Sangma said, “Despite the allegations being made about illegal mining, instead of verifying the fact, Conrad Sangma gave-clean chit to mining activities. We are trying bring it to government notice several times but the CM is insensitive to the subject and kept denying the fact. As a result of his conduct, there has been brutal assault on the social activists Agnes Kharshiing and Amita Sangma. It is only after those 13 labourers got trapped in the mine that the CM has considered the issue and admitted that illegal mining is going on in the state.”
He added, “This act clearly shows the CM’s incompetency, arrogance, insensibility and irresponsibility and now they are saying that they cannot control it as they do not have enough man power. We can conclude from this that CM Conrad Sangma and Home Minister James K Sangma just want power without responsibility.”
