Guwahati, February 6, 2019:

The anti-Citizenship (Amendment) Bill sentiment has always been quite strong in Mizoram. The newly-elected Chief Minister Zoramthanga has been staunchly opposed to the Bill and even went to hold talks in Delhi along with his Meghalaya counterpart. The people of the state have been also very vocal in their opposition to the Bill and the Mizo Zirlai Pawl, the leading student body in the state, has led the protests from the front. Now, the BJP party in the state has added its voice to the struggles against the Bill.

The BJP’s representatives of the party's Mizoram unit has said that they will dissolve the party in the state if the Central Government passes the Bill in the Rajya Sabha. The BJP Mizoram Pradesh has also appealed to all churches in the state to pray in order to defeat the controversial Bill.

BJP state unit head J V Hluna has said that as the BJP Mizoram Pradesh was formed to safeguard the interests of the indigenous people, they will not hesitate to dissolve the party if they see that the interests of the people in the state are harmed.

Hluna further added that since Bangladesh is in the 48th position in the list of countries where people face religious persecution, the inclusion of Bangladesh in the list of countries that also includes Afghanistan and Pakistan, is not justified.
