Ex-CM of Mizoram Zoramthanga says he favours NRCZoramthanga

Aizawl, November 16, 2018:

Two-time former Mizoram Chief Minister Zoramthanga said his Mizo National Front (MNF) favours the ongoing updation of National Register of Citizens (NRC) in Assam.

“Yes, I favour the NRC. We also have the problem of illegal migration,” he told InsideNe on Friday.

Asked about the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016, which has virtually kept Assam on the edge, Zoramthanga said his party is not in power and that it will take a position when it forms the government.

Meanwhile, the former rebel leader-turned-politician clarified that the MNF had no alliance with the BJP in Mizoram elections. The two of them are partners in North East Democratic Alliance (NEDA) but in Mizoram, they are fighting the polls separately.

“We did not align as we are two different political parties with different ideologies,” Zoramthanga said.

However, the ruling Congress said it had no doubt about the unholy nexus between the two political parties.

“Beware of false prophets who come to you in sheep’s clothing but inwardly are ravening wolves,” All India Congress Committee general secretary Luizinho Faleiro said about the BJP in Aizawl on Friday.

Alleging that the BJP was working “backdoor” in Mizoram, he said except in Tripura, the saffron party grabbed power in all other states of the Northeast with the help of NEDA allies.

Faleiro slammed BJP national president Amit Shah for his recent comment that the people of Mizoram would celebrate this Christmas under BJP rule.

“Has he (Shah) ever thought of celebrating Christmas? Why do they harass people celebrating Christmas in Uttar Pradesh and elsewhere in the country?” Faleiro asked.
