For the first time after the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) came into effect, Naga People’s Front (NPF), the main opposition in Nagaland, held State-wide sit-in protests against the CAA in all of its divisional headquarters across Nagaland.
Addressing the protest at Dimapur, NPF President, Shurhozelie Liezietsu said that the people of Nagaland have "misunderstood" the Citizenship (Amendment) Act. He said that those who supported and passed the bill in both the houses of Parliament recently are misleading the people. He further stated that the imposition of the ILP (BEFR 1873 in the Act), exemption of Nagaland state, and introduction of ILP in Manipur are all "cover-ups".

The NPF leader further alleged that the act was brought in purely on religious lines, a single based on the theory of ‘One Nation, One religion'.
"India is known as the largest democracy in the world. The greatness of India lies in ‘Unity in Diversity’. To destroy this unity in diversity is to destroy the greatness of India. It is most unfortunate that those people that are in power in Delhi today are destroying this very foundation of democracy and the greatness of India", Liezietsu further added and condemned the Naga leaders for supporting the Act.

The NPF leader further added that the Northeast will remain vulnerable, as most of the mainland Indian states such as UP and Bihar are already "overpopulated".
"CAA also indulge in ‘Politics of divide’. I want to challenge the Nagas who supported this act to come out and declare their stand openly", the NPF leader challenged, adding that his party would continue to oppose the legislation.
