Kohima, February 6, 2020:

Naga People’s Front (NPF), the main opposition in Nagaland, is all set to hold a peaceful sit-in protest against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) on February 11, 2020 from 10 am to 2 pm, in all the divisional headquarters  of the party across Nagaland.

A notification issued by newly-appointed NPF Secretary General, Achumbemo Kikon on February 5, 2020 listed the directives to be followed by party workers: "Sit-in protest shall be purely non-violent and decent, No derogatory speech shall be made by any participants, No burning of effigies, No littering at the protest venue...."

As the 5th session of the 13th Nagaland Legislative Assembly is set to commence on February 7, 2020, the opposition party has decided to hit the streets of Nagaland on issues related to the CAA, hinting at a stormy session ahead this time.

Meanwhile, the Naga Students' Federation, the apex student body in the State, has called upon the Chief Minister to adopt a resolution against the controversial legislation that has sparked protests across the Northeast Indian states.

It may be mentioned here that the State of Nagaland has already witnessed several peaceful protests against the Government's enactment of the Citizenship (Amendment) Act over the past several months.
