A presentation ceremony of the Governor's Awards to the Toppers, Subject Toppers in MILs & Skill Education Subjects, Dr. Neilhouzhü Kire Angami Award and felicitation of Rank Holders of the HSLC & HSSLC Examinations 2018 was held today at Raj Bhavan, Kohima.
NBSE Chairman, Asano Sekhose. In her speech in her welcome address said that in 2004, the then Governor, Shyamal Dutta had initiated an interaction programme with the toppers and rank holders of HSLC & HSSLC Examinations. This event created a lot of excitement among the student community and motivated them to do better. Subsequently, the then Governor in 2010 instituted the Governor’s Award by contributing Rs. 13,00,000 as Endowment Fund to acknowledge the young achievers of Nagaland.
She further said that the Governor, P.B. Acharya announced the awards to subject toppers in MILs and Skill Education Subjects on 26th May 2017 and accordingly instituted the Awards by creating and Endowment Fund of Rs. 7,00,000. Each achievers receives Rs. 2000 in cash and a gift worth Rs. 1000.
She also mentioned that this year, the Dr. Neilhouzhü Kire Angami Award carries a cash reward of Rs. 1,00,000 which is a one-time award for this year to commemorate 100 years of Dr. Neilhouzhü Kire Angami passing the matriculation examination in 1918.
The gesture and encouragement shown by the highest office of the State in instituting the Governor's Awards to the achievers have been very well received by the people of the State particularly the students community.
Bharat Goyal, a student of class 11, DPS R.K. Puram, Delhi gave a short speech on Career in Information Technology for Digital India. He said that Information Technology (IT) creates opportunities because government jobs are limited and growth in private sector is the key to employment generation. Students from all streams including commerce and humanities can take up career in IT. He hoped and wished that the students from Nagaland would be encouraged to take up IT in the future.
In his address, the Governor congratulated the students, the parents and the teachers for nurturing and molding the students to their path to success, He also congratulated the NBSE for declaring the examination results in time. He further stated that the pass percentage of the Board Examinations is steadily on the way up which is indeed an encouragement. He was also delighted to know that the performance and achievements of the girls were better than the boys because unlike most parts of the country, where the plight of girl child in the field of education is in a sorry state, in Nagaland children are treated equally. The Governor was happy to commemorate 100 years of the First Naga matriculate Late Dr. Neilhouzhu Kire, with cash award of Rs. 1 lakh for the 2018 HSLC topper.
The Governor further added that the students’ achievement should reflect the development of the State. Education with skills empowerment is the need of the hour. Introduction of skill education subjects in the school curricula is essential if the country is to move forward. Keeping in mind the importance of skill development of the students and to encourage students to embrace the dignity of labour, the office of the Raj Bhavan has instituted awards in skill education subjects as well as in Major/ Modern Indian languages form this year. He advised the students to set their aims and goals high and go for it with conviction and belief in themselves.
The Governor presented the Governors Awards/Certificates to HSLC, HSSLC toppers & Rank Holders and Awards for Achievers in MIL & Skill Education subjects, NBSE Awards to HSLC & HSSLC Toppers and the Dr. Neilhouzhu Kire Award to HSLC topper.
Short speeches were delivered by Retd. DGP of Nagaland, K Kire and Principal Secretary School Education & SCERT, Shri Menukhol John and also special Song was presented by students of Pranab Vidyapith Higher School, Dimapur and Mezhur Higher Secondary School, Kohima.
