Myanmar’s armed forces, officially known as the ‘Tatmadaw’, continue their crackdown against insurgent forces in the country. Reports have emerged that 500 personnel of the Tatmadaw have driven the Nationalist Socialist Council of Nagaland - Khaplang (NSCN-K) out of their headquarters in the Taga area and have taken physical control of the quarters. As per reports, the Myanmar Army has also set up a camp in the region.
It is being reported that Myanmar took this step after the NSCN (K) refused to follow their order demanding them to drive out non-citizen terrorists from their camps. Moreover, it is believed that the Myanmar Army is upset with the NSCN (K) outfit as they have not signed a ceasefire agreement.
As per sources, the militants did not offer up much resistance and have been scattered to various parts of the country. It is estimated that around 2,000 militants belonging to active militant organizations, including the ULFA and NDFB are holed up in the neighboring country.
