GUWAHATI: Farmer leaders on Friday protesting the Centre's three new farm laws have called for the agitation to be intensified and called for a Bharat Bandh on 8 December (Tuesday).

Bharatiya Kisan Union (BKU-Lakhowal) General Secretary, H.S. Lakhowal, addressing media persons at Singhu Border stated that yesterday, the farmers told the Government (at a meeting) that the farm laws should be withdrawn. "We have given a call for Bharat Bandh on 8 December," he added.

Hannan Mollah, General Secretary, All India Kisan Sabha, at Singhu border said that the farmers need to take this protest forward so that the Government is compelled to take back the farm laws.

The farmer leaders have vowed to renew demand for MSP guarantee, repealing of farm laws during the Saturday meeting scheduled with government.
After the failure of the meeting between the central government and the farmers’ representatives on Thursday, the Union Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar hinted that the government could amend three major provisions in the Farmers Produce Trade and Commerce (Promotion and Facilitation) Act. Another meeting has been scheduled during the weekend.
