The Congress party on Tuesday issued a three-line (underlined thrice to denote urgency) whip to its MPs to remain present and vote against the controversial Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016 in the Rajya Sabha till the discussion on the Bill is completed.
It is to be mentioned that a Whip is an official appointed to maintain discipline among, secure attendance of, and give necessary information to members of his party
As many as four MP have already applied for leave creating a state of confusion among the opposition who have given consent to oppose the Bill in the Rajya Sabha to the different organizations and political parties of the North East.
It may be mentioned that the count for the vote against the Bill in the Rajya Sabha is in a shaky position as many are yet to give their consent to oppose the Bill.
Meanwhile, delegations of different organizations from North East including Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma, Asom Gana Parishad leader Atul Bora along with senior party members have been meeting different political parties to gather support from the opposition to vote against the Bill.
