By-Election Results Updates: BJP Losing Its Majority in the Country?

Guwahati, October 25, 2019:

The by-election results were announced yesterday and the counting day witnessed a neck-to-neck fight among the contestants and parties across the country.

The Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) performance, overall, saw a drop in winning the majority seats. In Gujarat, the 6 seats were shared by the BJP and Congress.

In Bihar, the BJP was out of the game. Lalu Prashad Uadav’s Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) won 2 seats, JDU won 1 seat, AIMIM won 1 seat and an Independent candidate won 1 out of the 5 seats in the state.

In Chattisgarh, Congress emerged as the winning party.

Kerala by-poll results saw a tie between Congress and CPIM with 2 seats each. One seat was won by IUML.

In Punjab, Congress was able to acquire 3 seats while Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) grabbed one seat.

The BJD, undoubtedly, won the lone seat in Odisha and in Madhya Pradesh too. Congress had its hold in the only seat.

Similarly, Congress in Puducherry made its impact by acquiring the only seat.

The BJP emerged as the majority only in Uttar Pradesh by winning 7 seats. SP won 2 seats while BSP and AD won one seat each in the largest state of India. It also maintained its position in Himachal Pradesh.

Hence it can be said that the by-election saw a different picture this time in the country.
