An initial investigation on Sunday’s attack on a Nirankari gathering at Adliwal village near Amritsar has revealed that the grenade used by two unidentified muggers were similar to the ones being made by the Pakistani army ordinance factory, said Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh.
He added that there is a possibility of the involvement of ISI-trained terrorists in this attack that killed three people and 21 injured. The police had recovered a similar HG-84 grenade from a terror module busted last month.
Although the attack on Nirankari congregation evokes the memory of the 1978 clash between the sect and Sikhs, that killed atleast 16 people, mostly Sikhs in the state; which consequently led the wave of terrorism in 1980.
However, Singh warned people not to link the grenade attack with the 1978 clash as the incident was based on religious issue but the Sunday’s attack was a clear incident of terrorism.
