The results for the Karnataka by-polls for three Lok Sabha seats and two Assembly seats will be announced today.
The counting of votes has already begun. The by-poll is considered a precursor to the 2019 Lok Sabha elections and it would be interesting to see who wins North Karnataka’s Ballari seat – considered as the backyard of mining baron Reddy brothers.
As per the initial results, the battle is clearly between Congress-JDS alliance and the BJP; the latter having stronghold in Shivamogga and Ballari while the Janata Dal Secular (JD-S) holding Mandya. Out of the three parliamentary constituencies, the BJP held two, while the JD-S one.
After eleven rounds of counting in the Shivamogga Lok Sabha seat, BJP's BY Raghavendra is leading by 36,467 votes over his JD-S rival Madhu Bangarappa.
In the Mandya Lok Sabha seat, JD-S candidate LR Shivramegowda is leading by 1,21,963 votes after six rounds of counting.
Currently, BJP is leading in Shimoga with 11,000 votes, while the Congress is leading in Ballari and Jamkhandi by over 1 lakh and 11,000 votes respectively.
