Militant killed in brief shootout in Kulgam

Srinagar, March 16:

A militant was killed in a brief encounter with Government forces on Saturday at Kujar area of South Kashmir's Kulgam district.

According to official sources, a joint team of army and SOG launched cordon at Kujar, Yaripora village following credible inputs about the presence of some militants in the area.

After the joint team fired some warning shots towards the suspected spot the hiding militants opened fire and tried to break the cordon. However, the joint team engaged the militants in a gunfight.

Police have informed that during the initial exchange of firing one militant has been killed and his identity is being ascertained.
