After witnessing Modi’s stronghold in the Lok Sabha Election 2019, Congress president Rahul Gandhi (RaGa) offered to resign from his post OF President of the party, reports said.
However, UPA chairperson and his mother Sonia Gandhi turned down the offer.
According to reports, the matter will be taken up by the Congress Working Committee (CWC) in its next meeting to be held in the upcoming days.
Addressing the media, Rahul Gandhi congratulated Smriti Irani for her win in Amethi, as he was defeated by her, and also Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the win as the BJP has improved its tally from 2014 and crossed the 300-mark which is the biggest mandate for a single party since 1984.
However, RaGa did not take questions on the reasons for the defeat of Congress. Both in 2014 and 2019, the elections were fought under Rahul Gandhi’s leadership.
Escaping to discuss on the matter Gandhi said, “Since today is only the day to respect India’s mandate, the post-mortem will be done at the CWC meeting.”
It is to be mentioned that Amethi, which has been a stronghold of the Congress party has turned out differently this time.
