New Delhi, February 25, 2020:

The Election Commission of India (ECI) has announced that the biennial elections of 55 members of Rajya Sabha from seventeen states, retiring in April 2020, will be held on March 26.

Of these 55, Assam has three seats in the Rajya Sabha and Meghalaya and Manipur have one seat each. While Assam MPs Biswajit Daimary and Dr. Sanjay Sinh will be retiring on April 9, Former MP Bhubaneswar Kalita had resigned from his post following the abrogation of Article 370 in August, 2019.

Manipur’s Kshetrimayum Bhabananda Singh will also be resigning on April 9 whereas Meghalaya’s Wansuk Syiem will be resigning on April 12.

The Rajya Sabha elections on Wednesday will be held for the other fourteen states include Maharashtra, Odisha, Tamil Nadu, West Bengal, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Gujarat, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan.

It may be mentioned here that the results will also be declared on the same day of the elections.
