“The proposed Bill will frustrate the Assam Accord the fruit of the long six years agitation of the Assamese people, another aspect of the bill is that the entire process of preparation of National Register of Citizens being monitored by the Supreme Court will be meaningless if the bill is passed,” it added.

It may be mentioned that the stir against the CAB has gained further momentum in Assam after the Centre announced that the areas under the ILP regime and the tribal areas safeguarded under the 6th Schedule of the Indian Constitution.

Indigenous organizations such as the Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti (KMSS), as well as the All Assam Students’ Union (AASU), along with the support of many local bodies, have been protesting against the Bill ever since it was announced by the BJP-led Central Government.
