The Shiv Sena has announced that the party shall oppose the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill in the Parliament, that is to be tabled on December 9 and December 10.
In a press note, undersigned by the Leader of Shiv Sena Parliamentary, Sanjay Raut stated, “Shiv Sena is determined to oppose the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill in the Parliament on going protest against. The Bill throughout Assam has made it clear that the people of Assam irrespective of caste, creed and religion is against it.”

The note added, “The regional party of Assam, Asom Gana Parishad appealed to us to oppose the Bill in the greater interest of the indigenous people of Assam and its language, culture and for the protection of identity of Assamese people.”

“The proposed Bill will frustrate the Assam Accord the fruit of the long six years agitation of the Assamese people, another aspect of the bill is that the entire process of preparation of National Register of Citizens being monitored by the Supreme Court will be meaningless if the bill is passed,” it added.
It may be mentioned that the stir against the CAB has gained further momentum in Assam after the Centre announced that the areas under the ILP regime and the tribal areas safeguarded under the 6th Schedule of the Indian Constitution.
Indigenous organizations such as the Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti (KMSS), as well as the All Assam Students’ Union (AASU), along with the support of many local bodies, have been protesting against the Bill ever since it was announced by the BJP-led Central Government.
