The Supreme Court on Thursday gave a clean chit to the NDA government and dismissed the three review petitions on the Rafale fighter jet deal. It also closed the contempt proceedings against Congress leader Rahul Gandhi over his 'chowkidar chor hai' comments.

The judgment was given by a Supreme Court bench comprising Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi and Justices SK Kaul and KM Joseph. The bench reading out the verdict said that they will not get into a fishing or roving inquiry on the basis of perception of individuals.
The review pleas were filed by former Union ministers Yashwant Sinha, Arun Shourie, advocate Prashant Bhushan and Aam Aadmi Party Rajya Sabha member Sanjay Singh.

The Congress-led opposition had alleged that the aircraft, built by Dassault Aviation of France, was purchased under a direct government-to-government agreement at a much higher price than the one negotiated for 126 aircraft by the UPA government under an open tender.
