Political analyst Tehseen Poonawalla has lodged a complaint against Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his remarks on those protesting against the Citizenship (Amendment) Act saying that they “can be identified from their clothes”.
Poonawalla also posted a photograph of his complaint against the PM in his twitter handle and tweeted, “I have filed a complaint against our @PMOIndia shri @narendramodi ji for the words he used in a rally in DUMKA Jharkhand: “Unke Kapdo se pata chal jata hain!” This is an attempt at demonizing #Assam & Muslims citizens. @ECISVEEP must act against the hon PM. @SpokespersonECI.”
Poonawalla also joined the march to Jantar Mantar in New Delhi against the contentious Act despite the imposition of section 144 in the region.

The political analyst, through a series of tweets on his official twitter handle, launched a campaign against the Act. He tweeted, “My FELLOW CITIZENS, my SUPPORTERS & I ARE GOING TO PEACEFULLY MARCH to JANTAR MANTAR irrespective of the illegal #Section144. This march is against the #CAA_NRC @CPDelhi @DCPCentralDelhi @DelhiPolice take note ! #CAAProtest”
In another tweet, he said, “Dear NEUTRAL Indian fellow citizens..the #CAA_NRC is being done to take the debate away from the economy. Only the present government gains if the issue is communal as opposed to their economic failures. TAKE A STAND NOW #CAAProtest Illegal #Section144.”
Poonawalla’s remarks came amid the Opposition parties’ protest against the government over the newly amended Citizenship Act, and the violence at Jamia Milia Islamia university in New Delhi.
In response to the protests, PM Narendra Modi, addressing an election rally in Dumka on Sunday had said, “People who are setting fire (to property) can be seen on TV… They can be identified by the clothes they are wearing.”
The comment was widely criticized by the people of Assam, and other states and many people have accused the PM of creating a communal divide.
