Sikkim mountaineer Shanti Rai to represent India in winter expedition in East Nepalsikkim

Gangtok: Sikkim Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang today facilitated Shanti Rai who is embarking on an international winter expedition to Ama Dablam in Eastern Nepal at Mintokgang today. Shanti Rai, an Instructor of Chemchey, South Sikkim, who is also a reputed mountaineer from Sikkim, is the lone mountaineer representing the Country for the expedition.

The Chief Minister in his brief address extended his best wishes to her and also assured to provide all the necessary support for the expedition.

A month-long winter expedition will begin from 25 December to Ama Dablam. Rai is expected to scale 6812 m along with international mountaineers from countries such as Mexico, Turkey, Oman, and Egypt.

Earlier, Shri Kazi Sherpa, Deputy Director, IHCAE, Chemchey briefed about the winter expedition.

The Minister for Tourism and Civil Aviation Department B. S. Panth, Madam Chief Minister Smt Krishna Rai, along with the officials of the Tourism and Civil Aviation Department was also present during the program.

Panth, talking to conveyed his best wishes to the Sikkim mountaineer. "With her indomitable spirit, she has become the very embodiment of woman power. Therefore, we are conveying our best wishes", he said.
