Anima Sonowal, hailing from Guwahati city in Assam, who was selected in the India team for the 21st Asian Masters Athletic Championship, won gold in high jump and pole vault, silver in 4x100 m relay and bronze in hurdle race held at Sarawak in Malaysia from 2nd to 7th December.
Anima is married to Sondeswar Sonowal, who works in the Airport Authority. Her father is Monesor Sonowal, and her mother’s name is Padmeshori Sonowal. Although she started her career in sports in 1989, her rise up the ranks was gradual, and she only showed her true potential much later.

The Assam lass first made it into the international sporting arena in 2012. Notably, in a meet in China 2017, she won the bronze in the high jump and won the silver in the 4x100m relay. At the Thailand Open meet held in 2015, she won the Gold medal in High Jump.
At an event held in Singapore in 2016, she won the bronze in the high jump and gold in the 4x100m Relay.
In another meeting in Taiwan held in 2012, she won the bronze in the High Jump event, Gold in the 4x100m event, and a bronze in the Triple Jump event.
