The Bodoland Territorial Area Districts (BTAD) Women’s Football League turned up in an exciting final match on Tuesday in the midst of much fanfare.
The tournament was organized by the Red Horns Division of Indian Army as part of the Sadbhavna initiative for the major boost to women's football in the region.
The tournament took place for four days with the final at Debitola village of Kokrajhar. A total of eight teams from Kokrajhar and Dhubri participated vie for the trophy and be crowned the champion for what is planned to be an annual event.
In today’s vivacious finals, Kokrajhar Kickers beat Gossaigaon Guns by 4-0 and were crowned Champions.
The tournament was done with an aim to encourage girls to pick up sports and to promote physical fitness, Companionship and a competitive spirit and also motivate them to come forward as the teams had been kitted by the Army and offered coaching.
The tournament is expected to provide much needed impetus to women's football and serve as an initiator to represent more women into sports.
