New Delhi, September 10, 2019:

India’s ace sprinter Hima Das has been selected in the 4x400m relay runner in India's 25-member squad for the World Athletics Championships. The championship will be held in Doha, Qatar from September 27.

Hima could not qualify in the 400m event but she has been selected to run in the women's 4x400m relay and the mixed 4x400m relay races.

The AFI is hopeful that the selected team will be able to clinch medal or at least run close to it.

There are also possibilities that World University 100m champion Dutee Chand will also get included although she did not meet the qualification mark but is within the required number of competitors for the event.

Archana Suseentran (200m women) and high jumper Tejaswin Shankar are also in the selection row of the IAAF.

The selection committee was chaired by Olympian Gurbachan Singh Randhawa. AFI President Adille Sumariwalla, chief coach Bahadur Singh, Bahadur Singh Saggu, Krishna Poonia, Praveen Jolly, Uday Prabhu, Paramjit Singh also attended the committee meeting.

The 25-member selected team in the 4x400m relay runner are-

Men: Jabir MP (400m Hurdles), Avinash Sable (3000m Steeplechase), Jinson Johnson (1500m), KT Irfan and Devender Singh (20km Race Walk), Sreeshankar M (Long Jump), Tajinder Pal Singh Toor (Shot Put), Shivpal Singh (Javelin Throw), Gopi T (Marathon), Muhammed Anas, Nirmal Noah Tom, Alex Antony, Amoj Jacob, KS Jeevan, Dharun Ayyasamy and Harsh Kumar (4x400m Men's & Mixed Relay).

Women: PU Chitra (1500m), Hima Das, Vismaya VK, Poovamma MR, Subha Venkatsan, Annu Rani (Javelin Throw),  Jisna Mathew, Revathi V, Vithya R (4x400m Women & Mixed Relay).
