Suspected JMB Cadre from Bangladesh Nabbed in Tripura

Guwahati, March 19, 2020:

Tripura Police on March 18 apprehended a suspected cadre of the dreaded insurgent group of the Jamatul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) in Raghna Village in North Tripura district.

The suspected militant, Abdul Malik, was apprehended along with fake indian Documents during an operation that was conducted by the local authorities.

It is pertinent to mention here that the operation was conducted based on information received from military intelligence. Consequently, in response to the inputs, a search pperation was launched in Raghna village, which falls under the Dharmanagar police station in North Tripura District.

Inside Northeast sources have revealed that during interrogation, the JMB Cadre accepted that he is a Bangladesh National and settled in India with fake Documents of Indian Identity. He further admitted that he had been visiting his native Bangladesh frequently.

The individual also accepted having links with the other JMB cadres who are presently active in India. Moreover, he also revealed that he has travelled to metropolitan cities like Bengaluru and Chennai in the past. According to our sources, Abdul Malik is a wanted JMB cadre in Sylhet, Bangladesh. The individual is presently being held in the Dharmanagar Police Station for further investigation.

It may be mentioned here that Malik's arrest has set the alarm bells ringing in Tripura, where the entry of illegal migrants from the neighboring Bangladesh is rampant. In fact, video footage reveals that the people from Bangladesh, with scant regard for the border, are often seen crossing it in plain view of the locals.

Tripura's royal, Pradyot Manikya, brought attention to this phenomenon in the midst of the ruckus over the Citizenship (Amendment) Act. Sharing a video of suspected migrants crossing the border that was reportedly shot on December 26 last year, Manikya laments that many people are speaking out against the ‘CAA’, but few realize how porous the Northeast Indian borders are.

Pointing out that Bangladeshi nationals often cross the Indian border nonchalantly, with scant regard for international demarcations, Manikya stated that not even an Inner Line Permit (or ILP) will stop them. “These are Bangladeshi’s crossing over to India -Location -Tripura , Simna, India border at Daldali village. Do you think your ILP will stop them?”, Manikya queries.

Manikya further pointed out that since they have many similar attributes to the people of Tripura, they cannot be separated from genuine citizens. “They speak same language, wear sari and cannot be identified from their features if they belong to one religion or another.
