In a significant development in Tripura politics, two new names have emerged for the race of the Chief Minister of the princely state. Though, Tripura state president of the Bharatiya Janata Party Biplab Kumar Deb was the choice of the party as the Chief Minister, two new names are doing the rounds for the hot seat. The BJP who otherwise talks of giving preference to youths is now on the lookout for a veteran leader for the top post. Senior leader Rampada Jamatia who won from the Bagma constituency is also considered as one of the name to take on the hot seat. On the other hand another name on the card is Jishnu Debbarma who is yet to contest the election from Charilam constituency. Election to the Charilam constituency is due on March 12 due to the death of CPI(M) candidate Ramendra Narayan Debbarma. According to sources, Senior BJP leaders Nitin Gadkari and Juel Oram are camping in Agartala to take a final call for the top post. It is unlikely that the name of the Chief Minister would be announced today as the party is finding it difficult to choose between the names.
It may be mentioned that the BJP along with its alliance partner Indigenous People’s Front of Tripura made a thumping victory in the recent concluded assembly elections winning 43 seats ending the 25 years of Leftist rule.
