Two minors injured in alleged BSF firing at Tripura border

Two minors from the Putia border area in Sepahijala district, Tripura, were injured in an alleged incident involving Border Security Force (BSF) personnel on Saturday, December 6 according to a senior official from the state health department.

The children, who suffered multiple injuries, were initially admitted to Bishalgarh Subdivision Hospital. Due to the severity of their condition, they were later transferred to Agartala Government Medical College (AGMC) and GBP Hospital for advanced treatment.

Dr. Arijit Sinha, Sub-Divisional Medical Officer (SDMO) of Bishalgarh, confirmed that the minors arrived at the hospital at different times. “Preliminary observations suggest that the injuries were likely caused by BSF firing and injured were like from rubber bullets,” he said.

According to the SDMO, the children were reportedly involved in illegal activities near the border when the incident occurred.

“Although their current condition is stable, the seriousness of the injuries necessitated referral to a specialized medical facility,” Dr. Sinha added.

The injuries appeared consistent with rubber bullets, as there were noticeable impact marks but no penetration wounds.

“Considering the nature of the trauma, we advised referral to AGMC for specialized care,” the SDMO noted.
So far, the BSF has not issued any official statement regarding the incident. Tripura shares an 856-km-long border with Bangladesh, with over 95% of it fenced.
