The patient, who is undergoing treatment at Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences (JNIMS) isolation ward, is feeling better after the medication approved by ICMR, a local news daily quoted Manipur health minister L Jayantakumar Singh as saying.
Initially, the discovery of the virus in the Manipur girl caused a situation of hue-and-cry across the region, with the Northeast Indian states upping the ante on testings. Neighboring Assam has also gone into a red-alert mode, with the State said to be preparing facilities for thousands of people within the case in case of an outbreak.
The 23-year-old girl, who recently returned to the state from London in the UK, tested positive for COVID-19 on Tuesday morning, making her the first confirmed case of coronavirus in the state and northeast India. On Wednesday, the State of Mizoram has recorded Northeast India’s second positive case of the virus, who, according to our sources, is a 50-year-old pastor. According to reports, the patient is a 50-year-old man who recently returned from Amsterdam in Holland with his family. The swab was tested at the Guwahati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH). An Inside Northeast source said that the man who has been detected COVID-19 positive is a pastor. He has been admitted right now in a medical college. He recently returned from Holland with his family on March 16, and started exhibiting symptoms on March 22. They have all been placed under isolation.
Meanwhile, the 11 persons from Tripura who had been identified as co-passengers of Northeast’s first COVID-19 positive patient reported in Manipur, have been tested as ‘NEGATIVE’, the State’s Chief Minister, Biplab Kumar Deb, said via a video message. This was confirmed after there were initial reports that some of her co-passengers had tested positive. Since the case was reported in Manipur and it was revealed that the patient had landed in Agartala before reaching Manipur, a section of persons started a string of rumors surrounding COVID-19 positive cases in Tripura who had gone missing. Few social media profiles had also leaked the name of all the passengers who had boarded the flight, putting their lives in jeopardy.
